Hello and welcome to the May edition of the Worcestershire Growth Hub newsletter. With the sunshine finally making a regular appearance and the warmer days lifting everyone’s spirits. It feels like the perfect time to focus on fresh opportunities and growth. This month’s update is packed with the latest news, events and support available to help your business thrive.
I’d like to start this month’s update by inviting Worcestershire businesses to register their place for the upcoming Talent and Skills HR events. We are delivering this series of events in partnership with the local Chamber of Commerce to equip businesses with the latest information across a range of key HR topics for success. Worcestershire County Council’s Business Worcestershire Conference is coming back this summer. Join the Growth Hub team on the 11th of June for a morning packed with insights and updates across growth skills and business grant support. Attendees will benefit from learning more about how to access business support programs, upskill their staff and strengthen their grant applications to support their business journey. Next up I’d like to introduce an opportunity for any deep tech entrepreneurs in the county. The Tech Planter pitching competition is back in 2025 to help early stage ventures with science based technologies to scale and commercialize tech, planter offers access to funding, mentoring and international industry connections. This is a great opportunity for startups to gain visibility and validation in front of leading multinational corporations, venture capital firms and key players in a global innovation ecosystem. Worcestershire’s entrepreneurs interested in learning more about the competition and how to enter can find more information in the newsletter.
The Worcestershire Apprenticeship Awards are fast approaching and there are still a few remaining silver and bronze sponsorship packages left. Sponsoring the awards is a great platform for organizations to raise their profile in the local community and showcase their commitment and support of all things apprenticeships. Local businesses who would like to take advantage of the opportunity have until the end of May to express their interest by emailing us at enquiries@wlep.co.uk.
Finally to flag an opportunity for you to have your say and feed into Government’s policy development around supporting employment. The Keep Britain Working Review, also known as the Charlie Mayfield Review, is an independent review into health related economic inactivity which is being co-sponsored by the Department for Business and Trade and the Department for Work and Pensions. The review aims to consider how government can support employers to recruit and retain more people with health conditions and disabilities, to promote healthy workplaces, and support more people to stay in or return to work from periods of sickness absence. A publication of early findings was made public on the 20th March, and a survey has now been launched by government calling for all stakeholders to engage with the early review findings and input their views. This survey remains open until midnight on Friday, 30th May, and it would be great if you could share your views.
