Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIPs) are an initiative from Central Government asking local authorities to put together a long-term strategic approach for the walking and cycling infrastructure which is required across an area.
Worcestershire County Council is developing an overall LCWIP for the County with a plan of recommended routes for active travel improvements in Worcester city, Evesham, Redditch, Kidderminster, Stourport, Bewdley, Malvern, Pershore, Droitwich and Bromsgrove. LCWIPs are important because they set out the vision and key priorities for infrastructure improvements in each of the areas, to create attractive, joined-up priority cycling and walking networks, encouraging, and enabling people to travel more sustainably and safely. The aim is to encourage greater and safer opportunities for cycling, walking, and wheeling to help reduce journeys by other forms of transport, improve health and wellbeing and reduce congestion and improve air quality. LCWIPs are also key plans to secure funding to deliver these improvements to cycling, walking and wheeling routes.
To help inform Worcestershire County Council’s approach to providing walking, wheeling and cycling improvements in Redditch and Evesham, two public engagement exercises are currently underway, asking for people’s views on the proposed priority routes. The Evesham survey closes on Friday 27 September 2024 and the Redditch survey closes Friday 25 October 2024.
