How Worcestershire Employers can lead the future of Workforce Development through the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP).
Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce is proud to lead the Local Skills Improvement Plan (LSIP) for the Worcestershire region. (LSIPs) are government-backed initiatives designed to align post-16 technical education with the evolving needs of local employers. By working closely with businesses, education providers, and stakeholders, the Chamber gathers insights to identify key skills gaps and ensure training reflects current and future workforce demands.
Now in its final stages, the Worcestershire LSIP has already successfully enhanced collaboration between employers and training providers, resulting in the upskilling of over 490 individuals through targeted training in digital and professional skills. It works closely with Worcestershire County Council and Worcestershire Growth Hub to support long-term workforce development. But the LSIP’s success hinges on active employer involvement. So, how can businesses contribute?
- Engage in surveys and direct engagement: By sharing insights through surveys, employers can directly influence the focus areas of LSIPs. Also, attending one two one interviews with eh LSIP team to share recruitment challenges, future and current skill needs, or training opportunities.
- Attend Workshops and forums: These events facilitate dialogue between employers, educators, and policymakers, fostering a collaborative approach to skills development.
- Access Training and Funding Opportunities: Through initiatives like the Skills Boost program, employers can receive financial support to upskill their workforce, addressing identified skills gaps.
- Collaborate with educational institutions: Explore partnership opportunities for apprenticeships, work experience, training, or curriculum development as well as taking advantages of new facilities like the Green Technology Centre at Kidderminster Collage.
